چکیده

Two-dimensi•,nal model calculations have been carried out of the distributions of the fluorinecontaining reservoir species HF, CF2 O, and CFC10. HF constitutes the largest fluorine reserr, fir in the stratosphere, but CF• O also makes an important contribution to the inorganic fluorine budget. CFC10 amounts are most irnportant in the tropical lower stratosphere. HF amounts increase with altitude throughout the stratosphere, while those of CF20 and CFC10 fall off above their mixing ratio peaks due to photolysis. The model is in good qualitative agreement with observed vertical profiles of HF and CFeO but tends to underestimate the total column of HF. The calculated CFC10 distribution is in good agreement with the very limited data. The disagreement in the HF columns is likelydue to small inaccuracies in the model's treatment of lower stratospheric ph•,tolysis of chlorofluorocarbons. The model results support the suggestion that CF•O may be heterogeneously c•nverted to HF on the surface of polar stratospheric cloud particles. The model results also suggest that the quantum yield for photolysis of CF:• O is near unity.

Model study reservoir flushing

Sediment flushing of reservoirs is an operational technique, whereby previously accumulated sediments in the reservoirs are hydraulically removed by accelerated flow when the bottom desiltingoutlets of the dam are opened. In this research, the process of sediment flushing is simulated by a three dimensional numerical model in which sediment and flow interaction are reflected in the reservoirs. ...

Satellite Observations of Stratospheric Carbonyl Fluoride

The vast majority of emissions of fluorinecontaining molecules are anthropogenic in nature, e.g. chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). These molecules slowly degrade in the atmosphere, leading to the formation of HF, COF2, and COClF, which are the main fluorinecontaining species in the stratosphere. Ultimately both COF2 and COClF further de...

A NEW GENERATION OF OXYNITRIDE GLASSES CONTAINING FLUORINE

Oxynitride glasses are found as grain boundary phases in silicon nitride ceramics. They are effectively alumino-silicate glasses in which nitrogen substitutes for oxygen in the glass network, and this causes increases in glass transition and softening temperatures, viscosities (by two to three orders of magnitude), elastic moduli and microhardness. Calcium silicate-based glasses containing fluo...

Sensitivity Analysis of Water Flooding Optimization by Dynamic Optimization

This study concerns the scope to improve water flooding in heterogeneous reservoirs. We used an existing, in-house developed, optimization program consisting of a reservoir simulator in combination with an adjoint-based optimal control algorithm. In particular we aimed to examine the scope for optimization in a two-dimensional horizontal reservoir containing a single high permeable streak, ...
